1,500 years of history The Reason for Its Durability for over a
Thousand YearsEchizen boasts a history of approximately 1500 years as one of Japan’s oldest washi-making regions.
Kozo (paper mulberry) has been a primary ingredient for Echizen washi. Traditional method of intertwining long fibers from Kozo makes it tear-resistant and prevents deterioration.
The fact that many documents stored in the Shosoin Archive remain intact proves its durability.
Due to these reasons, Echizen washi paper has been chosen as the material to preserve precious kimonos not only for today’s but also for future generations. -

The Japanese Tradition of "Lining" The craftsmanship of Miyamori revives and
protects Kimono fabric.Lining is a unique Japanese mounting technique in which a layer of washi paper is applied to the underside of a kimono to straighten out any distortions in the fabric and increase its strength.
Echizen kimono mounting requires delicate techniques to finely adjust the glue and the brushing pressure after carefully examining wrinkles and fiber orientation.
This process makes the silk’s natural luster and texture to remain beautiful and long lasting.

Original handmade artworks are generally exempt from customs duties in most countries (including the US, EU, UK, Canada, and Australia) under HS Code 9701.90. However, local VAT or GST may apply depending on your country — typically 5–25% of the purchase price.
These charges, if any, are the buyer’s responsibility and are not included in our listed prices.

Is it possible to create a mounted artwork from any type of kimono?
Obi sash will be used as well.
However, certain material may not be suitable for some types of artwork. Please consult us for more detail.

Yes, we are happy to help your oversea purchase.

We will do our best to avoid the areas that have any issues. Please consult us with any concerns.
Are there any plans to restock the items that have been sold out?
All our artworks are made from one-of-a-kind kimonos, so each piece is truly unique.
However, we may be able to create a similar artwork using other parts of the same kimono.

What is the delivery time?
At minimum, 2 months will be required.
Depending upon the workload, additional time may be needed.
Necessary timeframe may also vary by the order type. Please consult with us first.
Can I request which part of the kimono I would like to have in the artwork?
Definitely. However, we may give you some suggestions depending on the condition of your kimono and the size of your preferred artwork.
Before we start working on your request, we will discuss with you about your preference.
